Music
Nurturing and showcasing our musically talented students.
Our music department thrives on a dynamic array of initiatives aimed at nurturing and showcasing the diverse talents of our students.
Preparing our students for a career in Music
In 2024, the College is embarking on its first college-wide recording project in over two decades. This project offers students professional audio production experiences, with expert mixing and mastering. Culminating in a vinyl release highlighting the artistic and musical talents of the College community.
With a focus on modern music education, we integrate industry-standard software skills alongside traditional music education. This ensures students are equipped for diverse career paths in the ever-evolving music industry. Classes are led by staff with real world experience and remain deeply connected with the local and national music industry.
Instrumental Music Program
We invest in fostering musical interest among younger students through initiatives like the Year 7 immersion project, during which students receive a concert band instrument of their choice for a term, laying the foundation for future musical exploration.
Additionally, the College offers an instrumental music program, providing students with the opportunity to receive personalised instruction from highly skilled professionals during class time. Students can opt for one-on-one lessons across a wide array of instruments and musical styles. This program not only enhances students’ technical proficiency but also fosters a deep appreciation for diverse musical traditions. With dedicated teachers guiding them, students can explore their musical passions and develop their talents to their fullest potential, enriching their overall educational experience within the department.
Performances
Throughout the academic year, the College hosts numerous performances, from assemblies and Liturgical events to lunchtime concerts and local events, providing students with opportunities to perform for school visitors and showcase their skills to a wider audience. Primary students enjoy annual Christmas Carol evenings with their families in attendance.
Our annual music night, Xavier In Concert, is a vibrant showcase spotlighting the musical prowess of students across various styles and skill levels, fostering an inclusive and celebratory atmosphere.
The biannual College Musical production stands as a testament to the department’s commitment to fostering creativity and performance skills, offering students the chance to shine on stage in captivating theatrical productions. Past productions held at the Shedley Theatre were an immense success.
