Celebrating Angel’s Graduation from the Barkuma Transition Program

We are thrilled to celebrate Year 12 Handley student, Angel, who graduated from the Barkuma Transition Program at a stylish and inspiring ceremony on Thursday, 12 December.

Throughout 2024, Angel participated in the program one day a week in Adelaide, demonstrating resilience and determination. As part of her involvement, Angel mastered the use of public transportation independently—an impressive achievement that required building confidence and problem-solving skills. She was the sole participant from Xavier College and had the opportunity to develop meaningful connections with over 20 other students from schools across Adelaide, further honing her social and interpersonal skills.

The Barkuma Transition Program supports final-year students with disabilities and learning difficulties, helping them navigate the transition from school to their future pathways. Through structured learning, skill development, accredited training, and work placements, participants gain essential tools to prepare for employment and independent living.

During Semester 1, Angel completed a Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways. This included practical activities such as mock interviews, resume writing, career counseling, worksite visits, and receiving guidance from guest speakers. In Semester 2, Angel progressed to earning a Certificate II in Hospitality, which featured valuable work experience with the welcoming and supportive team at Barossa Enterprises.

The program culminated in a heartfelt graduation and celebration ceremony, marking the incredible milestones achieved by Angel and her peers. We are immensely proud of Angel and her dedication to personal and professional growth. Her achievements reflect her hard work, perseverance, and the skills she has cultivated throughout the year.

As Angel embarks on her post-school journey, she will continue to receive support from Barkuma to explore her next steps. We eagerly anticipate hearing about her future accomplishments and adventures. Congratulations, Angel—the Xavier College community is cheering you on every step of the way!
