Religious Identity
A Catholic School in the Salesian Tradition
As a Catholic school in the Salesian tradition, our religious identity is the foundation of our daily lives. As a College we are committed to ensuring that the Gospel is known and lived. We share the light of Christ with our students so they have the opportunity to develop spiritually and are able to thrive in a complex and ever-changing world. Our goal is that all students become active and honest citizens and faithful believers.
Religious Education
Religious education is a core subject from Reception to Year 12. The program is sequentially and developmentally structured using the Crossways Framework of Catholic Education South Australia.
Prayer and Liturgy
Prayer is integrated into the daily life of Xavier College, particularly at the Oratory and Class level. Staff and students gather regularly for communal prayer services, which occur in a variety of formats. All students participate in these opportunities for reflection and spiritual growth.
Faith in Action
As St James the Apostle reminds us, “faith without good works is dead,” (see James 2:14–26). Hence, students across all campuses are involved in supporting various Catholic charities including Project Compassion, St Vincent de Paul’s Winter Appeal, South Australian Catholic Charities appeal and the Salesian Missions.
Retreat and Reflection Experiences
Students across all year levels have opportunities to participate in a variety of retreat or reflection experiences. These culminate in the Year 12 Retreat, which is often described as, “the best activity we ever had while at school.”
