A strong foundation

Reception to Year 6 students at Xavier College embark on an enriching and engaging educational journey at our Evanston and Two Wells Campuses.

Our primary years’ curriculum is designed to lay a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy. Students develop listening, interacting, speaking, reading, viewing and writing skills. They also begin establishing mathematical understanding and fluency that they can apply in their daily lives.

As part of a holistic education, we offer a comprehensive range of subjects as part of the curriculum so that students can develop their unique interests, talents and gifts.

Take a look at what sets our curriculum apart:

Literacy and numeracy
Equipping essential skills

Our core curriculum prioritises literacy and numeracy, equipping students with essential skills that form the bedrock of their academic journey across all year levels and subject disciplines. Our expert educators are trained to create learning environments that make literacy and numeracy engaging. We are also committed to using data to apply a multi-tiered system of supports to ensure all students develop their essential skills.

  • Literacy: Our literacy program is designed so that students develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to interpret and use language confidently for learning and communicating in and out of school. Literacy encompasses listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing, and creating written, spoken, digital and multi-modal texts.
  • Numeracy: Our numeracy curriculum is designed so that students develop the knowledge and skills to use mathematics confidently for learning and in their lives more broadly. Numeracy encompasses the knowledge, skills, behaviours, and productive dispositions that students need to use mathematics in a wide range of situations.

Instrumental tuition
Cultivating musical talents

Students with a passion for music can sign up for instrumental tuition, where they receive personalised instruction from skilled musicians. This program supports the development of technical skills, musical theory and performance confidence.

Holistic development
Supporting every step of the journey

At Xavier College, we believe in walking alongside our families as students grow on their learning journey. From their first days transitioning into Reception through to their first days into secondary school, we provide a supportive and nurturing environment where students are known to their educators and can feel safe, valued and inspired.

A range of wellbeing programs are offered at our Evanston and Two Wells campuses to support the College’s pastoral care approach.

  • Transition to Reception: The Bambino Transition program at Xavier College is designed to support young students as they transition smoothly into school life, helping them adapt to new routines with confidence. By fostering a nurturing environment, the program promotes a strong sense of belonging and eases the adjustment process. Through individualised learning experiences, children develop essential skills and concepts at their own pace, ensuring a successful start to their educational journey with strong relationships.
  • Emotional and social support: Our pastoral care program focuses on the wellbeing of each student, helping them develop gratitude, resilience, empathy and emotional intelligence. Classroom teachers work closely with families to ensure students feel supported both at school and at home. In addition, the College’s House and Oratory system plays an important role in ensuring each student can develop a range of relationships with educators and students across the year levels.
  • Wellbeing programs: Xavier College provides comprehensive support for student wellbeing through a dedicated full-time counsellor who offers individualised care and guidance. The College offers targeted programs designed to enhance students’ social skills, build lasting friendships and foster resilience. These initiatives aim to create a supportive environment where students can thrive both academically and personally. By addressing emotional and social needs, Xavier College ensures that every student has the tools to navigate challenges and develop a strong sense of self.
  • Transition to secondary school: We prepare students for the next phase of their education with a transition program that eases the move from primary to secondary school. This program includes orientation sessions, buddy systems and ongoing support to ensure a smooth and confident transition.
