Does every student have the opportunity to attend Xavier College?

Xavier College is open to any student seeking a Catholic Education.

Do I have to be Catholic to attend the
College?

While we celebrate that we are a Catholic College, we accept students from all faith backgrounds and those who do not identify with any religion or faith community.

What is the enrolment process?

Parents/Caregivers submit an Application for Enrolment form, complete with accompanying documents, to the College along with payment of the $50 non-refundable application fee. Please submit an Enrolment Enquiry to obtain an Application for Enrolment form.

The Application will be processed and if a position is available, you and your child will be invited to an enrolment interview.

You will be notified by the College Registrar or an Enrolment Officer of the status of your application as soon as possible. If successful, you will receive a Letter of Offer.

To accept the position at the College and confirm the enrolment, return the completed Enrolment Acceptance documents and pay the $150 non-refundable acceptance fee.

What happens if my enrolment is placed on the waiting list?

As soon as a position becomes available, the waitlist is considered against the enrolment criteria and the successful applicant will be notified of their opportunity to attend the College.

What are your intake year levels?

Our main intakes are Reception (Evanston and Two Wells campuses), and Year 7 (Gawler Belt or Two Wells campuses).

Students may transfer to the College in any year level providing there is a position available; positions in Years 1 to 6 and 8 to 12 are limited. Please contact the College Registrar for further information, [email protected].

How do I know if there are enrolment places available?

Do you have to play sport for the College?

No, other than the Pedal Prix team, the College doesn’t have any sporting teams that practise and compete on a regular basis. Instead, we encourage our students to be involved in their local community’s sporting clubs.

Our students participate in annual inter-school sporting competitions, these teams are formed on a voluntary basis each year.

We also have annual College events such as Athletics Carnival, Swimming Carnival, and Cross Country.

What extra-curricular activities do you offer?

Students have the opportunity to participate in activities such as athletics, swimming, cross-country, gymkhana, the College musical, Pedal Prix, instrumental music lessons, music ensembles, art exhibitions and workshops, the Ecological Group, student-run clubs, interschool sporting competitions, and programs run as part of the Liverpool International Academy.

What is your bullying policy?

We have a zero tolerance to bullying and implement a process of Restorative Practice. This process gives the victim a voice and offers the chance to repair relationships and learn from actions.

Do you stream students?

No, the College does not stream students according to academic achievements. Classes are composed of students with varying academic ability.

What languages do you offer?

Students start learning Italian in Reception and have the option of continuing their studies to Year 12.

What do you offer gifted and talented
students?

Students who demonstrate high intellectual potential are encouraged to further develop their specific talents through stimulating programs including state and national subject specific competitions, extra-curricular opportunities and early promotion to higher year levels in some subjects.

What can you offer my child who has a learning difficulty or special need?

We have an Inclusive Education Coordinator and a team of Education Support Officers (ESOs) who do an excellent job of working with families to ensure individual learning education plans are implemented across all curriculum areas at the College. Our fully-qualified teachers with our experienced inclusive education ESOs provide specialised in-class support. We work with a variety of allied health professionals including psychologists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and paediatricians whose reports guide the support we provide to students.

How much homework will my children have?

Junior School

We set homework which is age appropriate to the age and ability of the students. Besides supporting and reinforcing knowledge and skills, homework can also help develop sound study habits. The focus in Junior School is to foster their love of reading, this can be done by practicing sight words and listening to parents read to them in the Early Years.

Senior School

Year 7
Semester 1

English and Maths will be allocated weekly homework activities (maximum 90 minutes per subject per week).

Semester 2

Maths, English, Science and Humanities will be allocated weekly homework activities (maximum 1 hour per subject per week).

Year 8
Semester 1

Maths, English, Science and Humanities will be allocated weekly homework activities (maximum 1 hour per subject per week).

Semester 2

All subjects will be allocated weekly homework activities or summative assessment work (maximum 1 hour per subject per week).

Year 9

75 minutes per subject per week.

Year 10

90 minutes per subject per week.

Year 11

2-3 hours per subject per week.

Year 12

3+ hours per subject per week.

Our Student Hub at the Gawler Belt Campus is open until 4:30pm for students who wish to work on their homework.

Do you have age specific play areas?

At our Evanston Campus, there is a designated play area for Reception students located beside their classrooms. All other year levels may play anywhere on campus.

At both the Gawler Belt Campus and the Two Wells Campus, students may sit or play wherever they like during break times, there are no designated areas. This is another way we encourage students of all ages to build relationships and support each other.

Each campus is large enough for students to find comfortable spaces.

Do you have a canteen? When is it open?

Evanston Campus

The on-site canteen is run by Rory’s School Lunches, providing healthy and nutritious food to support students’ growth and learning. All food is prepared by a team of qualified chefs. The canteen is open on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday each week. Lunch can be ordered in advance via the Qkr! app. Students may make small over the counter purchases at recess and lunch.

Gawler Belt Campus

Gawler Belt Campus has a canteen on site that opens early in the morning, recess and lunch times each week day. The food items provided follow the healthy eating guidelines recommended by the State Government of South Australia. The canteen offers a combination of hot food and fresh rolls and sandwiches. EFTPOS is available.

Two Wells Campus

At the Two Wells Campus, the canteen is yet to be built. Currently, lunch may be ordered from the Two Wells Bakery on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Orders can be placed via the Qkr! app and will be delivered to Two Wells Campus.

Do we need to buy text books?

No, families don’t need to purchase text books. If they are required, text books are provided by the College and included in the school fee structure.

Are your School Counsellors available for all students?

Yes, our College Counsellors support all students who seek their listening ears.

Students from Reception to Year 10 require consent from a parent/caregiver before being referred to the College Counsellor. Students in Years 11 and 12 do not need parent/caregiver permission prior to seeing a College Counsellor, however, parents/caregivers will be notified by the College Counsellor in circumstances that compromise the student’s safety or wellbeing.

Do you have boarding facilities?

No, the College doesn’t provide boarding facilities.

Do you offer Out of School Hours Care?

Yes, there is an OSHC service at both the Evanston Campus and the Two Wells Campus. Both operate between 6:30am and 6:30pm, and are available to students who are aged 13 or under and not attending secondary school. Evanston Campus OSHC also provides a fantastic Vacation Care program during the school holidays, which is available for all eligible Xavier College students to book.
