The Arts

The Arts at Xavier College prides itself on inclusivity, engagement and utmost creativity through each endeavour. Within both core and elective arts subjects, students delve into diverse artistic expressions, honing their skills and exhibiting their imagination. This is all under the guidance of experienced educators and talented practitioners.

Visual Arts

Throughout our visual arts curriculum, students experience the world of painting, printing, drawing and clay. This allows exploration and experimentation with a range of techniques, styles and mediums. From traditional painting styles to experimental mixed media, our students are encouraged to push the boundaries of their creativity. Students develop a strong foundation in art theory and practical skills. Our arts facilities and creative tools foster a sense of discovery allowing students bring thoughtful and technically impressive creations to life. Many of these creations are proudly and continuously displayed around the College.

Creative Arts

The creative arts curriculum promotes innovation and originality across multiple disciplines, including dance, music, graphic design, digital media and photography. Through hands-on projects, inquiry and skills assessment, students learn to harness multimedia platforms to communicate their ideas effectively. These may come to life in the form of art installations, film, video, sculpture and even live performance. Our students develop a versatile skill set poised for success in today’s creative industries.

Opportunities

Our senior visual arts and creative arts students are provided a wealth of opportunities through community engagement. These include annual excursions to the SACE Art Show, the Art Gallery of South Australia, Samstag Museum of Art and the Gawler Community Gallery. Additionally, towards the end of each academic year, we proudly host our senior art exhibition, GraduARTS. It’s a wonderful celebration of students’ exceptional creations.

Drama

Our drama department provides a stage for our students to explore the liberating world of theatre and physical expression. Students are provided with opportunities to engage with acting, set design, costume and stagecraft. These skills come together to create captivating performances for internal and external audiences. Classical and contemporary units such as traditional cultural theatre, visual narratives, melodrama, mime and improvisation ensure that all drama students are met with performance styles that suit their passions and interests. Drama students also get to experience live performances held at the Adelaide Festival Theatre and local establishments such as Shedley Theatre.
